OFFER THE FLAVORS OF ZURICH THIS YEAR

Hello Cheese and Wine Lovers!

Are you thinking about what you’re going to offer at this time of year?  Zurich is a perfect place for shopping and L’Atelier du Fromage has a delicious idea for you: an Apéro Box from the Canton of Zurich!  This winter, offer lots of cheese and wine!

What does Zurich have to offer?

With more than 600 hectares of vineyards, Lake Zurich and the rivers that run through it, Zurich is the largest and most important wine-growing canton in the German-speaking part of Switzerland. The canton is divided into five sub-regions: Zurichsee – Lake Zurich, Limmattal, Unterland, Winterthur and Weinland.

The climate is generally mild and sunny, but there are areas that are marked by foehn winds and moderate to heavy precipitation, resulting in a wide variety of microclimates in each wine-growing region. In addition, the composition of the soil is different from one region to another, which also explains the great diversity of grape varieties and types of wine that can be found here. The most common varieties in this region are Pinot Noir, Räuschling, Müller-Thurgau (also called Riesling-Sylvaner) and Chardonnay.

About the wine and the cellar…

We offer you a Riesling-Sylvaner 2018 from the Schipf cellar. This vaulted cellar was built almost 300 years ago and has been run by the Von Meyenburg family for 120 years. Today, Kaspar Von Meyenburg is responsible for it together with the winemaker Jonas David Ettlin. This 4.5-hectare vineyard, very well exposed to the sun and close to Lake Zurich, is an exceptional place for the development of the 11 grape varieties planted there, which are subjected to a meticulous vinification process to make it one of Zurich’s wine specimens.

This Riesling-Sylvaner is a dry, light, straw-yellow wine with aromas of mainly citrus fruits and flowers, a touch of lychee, as well as hints of nutmeg and green tea. The palate has medium to high acidity and citrus fruit flavors of lime and pineapple, as well as notes of chamomile. It has a medium persistence and goes very well with cheese or as an aperitif.

About our selection

Our Schipf wine has the perfect profile to match Chäsi Girenbad’s selection of cheeses, not only because of its fresh acidity, but also because we find a pleasant fusion of flavors between the milk, the ripening of the cheeses and the tropical and floral notes that Riesling-Sylvaner offers.

Let this Apéro Box be the host of your next meeting or offer a beautiful smile to your loved ones. Spoil your palate with the selection of Zurich cheeses and wine that L’Atelier du Fromage offers you in December!

Cheers!

Ana
