As we live not far from the French border, in the canton of Neuchâtel, St-Gallen is the most distant destination to date, in search of the best artisanal cheeses.  It is exciting to bring these cheeses to the Swiss Romandie and to other cantons that have not had the opportunity to taste the specialties from St-Gallen.  What is interesting is that some of these specialties are exported to New York, but are not known in Switzerland.  It is these cheeses that make our Box a discovery every month!

The Abbey Library of St-Gallen

When we travel across Switzerland visiting cheese dairies, we rarely have time for sightseeing.  Our schedules are always full with visits, cheese tastings – and of course, photos!  Fortunately, during our trip to St-Gallen, we were lucky enough to be able to arrange one visit.  We chose the Abbey Library of St-Gall and we were enchanted!

The Abbey Library of St-Gallen is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the oldest working libraries in the world today.  The Abbey dates back to the 8th century when it was founded by Benedictine monks.  The library houses 170,000 books and 2,000 original documents from the Middle Ages.  It has been renovated over the years and is in exquisite condition. Its late baroque architecture (also known as rococo) transports you back in time and captures your imagination of what it means to live and study there.  If you pass by St-Gallen, the Abbey Library of St-Gall is a must-see!
